Pioneering power among finalists of the SET100 list 2025

The Munich-based energy startup Pionierkraft not only made it onto the prestigious SET100 list, but also secured a spot among the 15 finalist teams. The Munich-based startup only missed out on making it into the final five winners.

The SET100 list, published by the global innovation platform Start Up Energy Transition (SET), brings together the 100 most promising energy transition and climate tech startups worldwide that are driving innovative business models in the field of energy transition and climate protection. The SET initiative is organized by the German Energy Agency (dena) in cooperation with the World Energy Council.

Pionierkraft, which made it into the top 15 startups on the list, aims to realize the construction of photovoltaic systems using its innovative hardware and digital services. The Munich-based company is focusing on smaller apartment buildings. While solar systems for single-family homes and large tenant electricity systems are already booming, this market – which comprises almost 40 percent of the German housing stock – is barely developed. As a one-stop shop, Pionierkraft offers an all-round, worry-free package without administrative overhead and integrates PV, heat, and mobility applications for optimal decentralized energy use. In October 2024, the Munich-based company was able to convince investors with this approach and raise a high seven-figure sum in a Series A.

“The SET100 list embodies pioneering spirit”

Corinna Enders, Chairwoman of the dena-Management, emphasizes the importance of the SET100 list:

"The SET100 list is the central showcase for the world's most innovative and promising startups in the energy transition. The selected startups present proven, future-oriented solutions that actively contribute to achieving our climate goals. As pioneers of technological innovations and scalable business models, they accelerate the transition to sustainable, resilient energy systems – for the benefit of people and the planet. The SET100 list embodies the pioneering spirit we need to meet the global challenges of the energy transition."

5 winners in 5 categories

In mid-March, the top 15 startups from the SET100 list had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions at the SET Tech Festival as part of the SET Awards ceremony. An international jury of renowned experts selected the finalists from over 350 applications from 68 countries. The award winners included:
