Munich has a new program for socially and ecologically committed startups: the Munich Impact Incubator. The incubator, which was launched by the city's economic development agency, offers innovative impact founders not only a platform to refine and further develop their ideas, but also a strong network and practical support.
In October 2024, the first five teams were launched after an intensive screening: Büropiloten, Coby, Jambo, Muniqo Perfomante, Onmatter (formerly Hopfon). After the first completed batch, it is clear: incubator has not only helped the participating startups to progress, but is also an important building block in promoting the Munich impact scene.
A springboard for sustainable innovations
From the very beginning, the goal of the Munich Impact Incubator was clear: to provide founders with an environment in which they can develop sustainable, future-oriented solutions. The program supports startups not only financially but also with coworking spaces in the Munich Urban Colab, as well as targeted coaching, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Through direct access to experts from various fields, the participating teams gained helpful insights into scaling sustainable business models.
A special highlight of the program was the intensive exchange among the startups themselves. One of the participants, Luca Fabiano, co-founder of Muniqo Performante, says:
"The Munich Impact Incubator showed us how important it is to think outside the box. We learned an incredible amount from the other startups – from Jambo to Onmatter, Coby to Büropiloten. Despite our completely different approaches, we all share a common goal: to develop sustainable and future-oriented solutions."
Munich Impact Incubator: The Winners
At the end of the program, the ideas were recognized at a pitching event. There were only winners that evening, as all five teams received prizes. First place went to Muniqo Performante, which impressed with its comprehensive concept. Second and third place went to Onmatter (HopfOn) and Jambo, while Coby took fourth place and the office pilots took fifth place.
- Muniqo Performante offers a solution for shock-free and safe patient transport. The startup thus reduces the risk of injuries and long-term health problems, such as cerebral hemorrhages, while simultaneously improving medical care.
- Onmatter is a Munich-based climate startup that develops recyclable building materials from agricultural waste, including hops.
- Jambo combines sustainable, handmade children's clothing with social responsibility. The company employs senior citizens and provides them with a good income and a space for social interaction.
- Coby is developing an interactive, AI-powered plush toy that provides emotional support and practical coping strategies to children with life-changing chronic illnesses. Complemented by an app that engages parents, the startup helps them overcome everyday challenges and promote social and emotional independence in children.
- The office pilots help craft businesses with digitalization and take over their office work so that craftsmen can concentrate on their craft again.

But for many participants, the real reward was not the competition, but the inspiring journey they went through together. Luca Fabiano told:
"During the program, we grew incredibly close as a group. On the last evening, we really felt it again—we became not only comrades, but also friends."
The incubator has not only supported innovative startups but also formed a strong community that supports one another.
Future prospects for Munich's startup ecosystem
With the successful completion of its first batch, the Munich Impact Incubator proves that it is a crucial building block for the development of sustainable startups in Munich. The combination of strategic support, entrepreneurial know-how, and a strong network makes the program an important resource for young Munich-based companies with an impact approach.
The first round has demonstrated how valuable an incubator can be for developing sustainable, future-oriented companies: Everyone is a winner, as all participants leave with valuable experiences, contacts, and inspiration for their entrepreneurial journey. To make this journey possible for other Munich startups, the Munich Impact Incubator is planning a second round, starting in October. We will report as soon as further details on the call for proposals are available.
