The camper rental company Off of Camperboys GmbH was founded in 2016 as a project of two students and developed into a successful Traveltech-company. Eight years later, that appears to be over: The company has filed for insolvency proceedings with the Munich District Court. The provisional insolvency administrator is Baker Tilly partner Dr. Alexander Fridgen.
The stated goal is to continue the business together with new investors. A press release already mentions initial negotiations. Employee salaries are guaranteed until the end of the current year. Affected customers will be informed of the next steps as soon as possible.
Dr. Alexander Fridgen explained:
"As part of the preliminary insolvency proceedings, we will first assess the situation of Camperboys GmbH and initiate the necessary concrete steps. Despite the difficult current situation, we are working intensively together to find ways to continue business operations in the long term and successfully advance the restructuring of the company with a new investor."
Off, or Camperboys GmbH, rents out campervans at ten locations in Germany and operates a fleet of around 1,200 camper vans. The entire service, from rental to travel planning, is handled using specially developed software. The company has been operating since 2022. Pursue on restructuring its business model due to changing market conditions. This involves moving away from its own fleet toward an asset-light model with rental fleets from external system partners.
Rising vehicle purchase prices, high financing costs, and declining residual values of campers on the used car market placed a heavy burden on the startup. A pending financing round with external investors as bridging financing recently failed, forcing Camperboys into insolvency.

"We deeply regret having to file for insolvency, but remain optimistic that we can succeed in making our business model sustainable through strategic partnerships and restructuring. Our goal is to continue offering our customers the proven Camperboys quality in the future, to maintain as many of the jobs we have created as possible in the long term, and to gradually expand our market position."
