Amazon Sustainability Accelerator: Twaice makes it into the funding program

For the third time, startups have the opportunity to advance their sustainability solutions through the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator and test their technology together with Amazon. Fifteen startups from across Europe were selected from hundreds of applicants for the four-week support program – including the Munich-based startup Twaice.

Participating startups in the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator receive access to workshops, individual mentoring, a tailored curriculum, and access to relevant networks. This year, the teams also have the opportunity to pitch their technologies for pilot testing with Amazon—opening up the opportunity for future partnerships, Europe-wide implementation, and investment of up to €1.8 million each.

“Enormous added value across the entire life cycle of batteries”

Twaice offers software designed to help companies use their batteries more safely and efficiently. The company's software analyzes the condition of batteries and provides tips on how to extend their lifespan while saving costs. This allows customers to use their products longer, improve their performance, and increase their sustainability. Twaice co-founder Stephan Rohr explains:

"Our battery analytics software unlocks tremendous value across the entire battery lifecycle for our customers and the wider ecosystem. By participating in this exciting accelerator, we can demonstrate that our AWS-based platform enables a circular economy for batteries, while simultaneously learning even more from Amazon's tremendous expertise in scalability."

The Amazon Sustainability Accelerator is a four-week program designed to support sustainability-focused startups in scaling. Participants meet and collaborate with Amazon experts. In addition to workshops, participants receive mentoring and AWS funding worth approximately €10,000 each.

Potential partnership with Amazon

This year, for the first time, startups have the opportunity to apply to implement their innovations directly into parts of Amazon's operations. During the four-week accelerator phase, they receive tailored support to prepare them for a potential partnership with Amazon. They can then present their pilot projects. Three startups will be selected to participate in an eight- to ten-week program to plan their pilot projects. Depending on the duration and scope, they will receive financial support from Amazon ranging from €45,000 to €1.8 million each. Zak Watts, International Director of Sustainability at Amazon, says:

"I'm thrilled to welcome 15 ambitious startups to the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator this year. Their breadth will enable us to help even more entrepreneurs realize their potential. Not to mention the unique opportunity to test their technology directly within parts of our operations. Our mission is to make the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator the world's best program of its kind for entrepreneurs looking to develop and scale sustainable innovations."

This year's expanded Amazon Sustainability Accelerator is a partnership with EIT Climate-KIC, Europe's leading climate innovation agency, and innovation consultancy Founders Intelligence, part of Accenture.
